My research interests are in the fields of novel concepts for piezoelectric composites in sensor devices and energy harvesting with special focus on the areas of structural health monitoring applications in the aviation, automotive and construction industry. Other research interests are related to novel piezo plastics and flexible energy storage materials that envision to revolutionize product interface design by means of integrating flexibly without needing a battery. Recently, I have started working on producing fibrous materials that can be used within smart textiles.
I have had to date a career in the commercial apparel industry for 25 years covering a wide range of sports, leisure, lifestyle and technical products across global markets. My roles have covered product development, range planning, brand management, sourcing, website development, licence contract management, wholesale and retail partnership sales, marketing, financial planning, forecasting and reporting. We are the largest textile employer in the UK. We are a fully vertical operation from raw fibre to finished product specialising in cashmere and fine wool. We operate both Scotland’s largest weaving mill and largest knitwear mill. We are extremely active in pushing the science of what we do based on KTP projects with universities and green and black belt lean projects. In every single area of our operation we are looking to improve measurability, consistency and quality.
I come from a medical/nursing background and involved in innovation, exnovation, knowledge transfer and axiology. I teach at various universities, involved in design of business, technology and pedagogy, and relevant social science and arts. I have a lot of expertise currently contributed into projects like the Art Identity Standard and the Textile Institute, as well as substantial networks and connections across industry and academia.

I am a Behavioural Science graduate interested in enabling sustainable fashion through behavioural change interventions. Since 2019 I have been working in the industry and produced various articles and two thesis on consumer behaviour and sustainable fashion, receiving Dean’s list award from the University of Southampton for one of my theses. I am currently working with a sustainable behaviour consultancy on developing a framework of behavioural interventions that fashion businesses can use for better sustainable business practices. My research interests are to use Information, Social recognition, and Incentives to reduce social and behavioural complications customers face in adopting sustainable fashion.
Working as a senior knitwear designer for many retail brands such as Ballantyne Cashmere, Jaeger, Austin Reed, Yumi, Uttam London, White Stuff and the Laura Ashley, I have experience of many aspects of the knitwear industry. Last year I stepped back from the industry to study an MA in textile design, at UAL- Chelsea. My aim was to find the most sustainable fibre for knitwear. I graduated in Sept 21 with a distinction.
