Justine Lee
Working as a senior knitwear designer for many retail brands such as Ballantyne Cashmere, Jaeger, Austin Reed, Yumi, Uttam London, White Stuff and the Laura Ashley, I have experience of many aspects of the knitwear industry.
Last year I stepped back from the industry to study an MA in textile design, at UAL- Chelsea. My aim was to find the most sustainable fibre for knitwear. I graduated in Sept 21 with a distinction.
My study focused on the diversity of British sheep breeds and the quality of their fleeces, with a view of incorporating them into my knitwear practice as well as promoting them as a sustainable fibre to other designers.

- What are your aspirations and plans for the future?: To promote the Use of British Wool in the fashion Industry as a sustainable fibre. Developing partnerships with farmers, not only to increase the diversity of British wools available but also to protect the genetic gene pool of our rare breeds.
- What types of projects are you interested in working on through Future Fashion Factory?: Working with wool processors in Bradford and spinners in Skipton I would like to develop more British yarns, using the genetic qualities of the various UK sheep breeds, with the aim to use within my own practice and to promote them to the fashion industry to help reduce the environmental damage caused using synthetic fibres. This project would also aim to help smaller farms to become more resilient by offering a diversity of products from their sheep.
