My research interests centre around sustainability and the circular economy. I am particularly fascinated by the end-of-life treatment of garments and how they can be “recycled”. I have conducted research on various end-of-life practices, including, but not limited to swapping and renting, and am currently exploring what other opportunities may be to divert fashion from landfill.

I am a Senior Lecturer in Fashion Business in the Department of Materials, The University of Manchester. My research focuses on digital strategy & innovation in the fashion retail industry. I was trained as a traditional printmaker in Italy, where I gained advanced skills in textile printing. In 2017 I took specific courses at Leeds College of Art focusing on sustainable textile printing and natural dyes. I teach fashion marketing at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at York St John University and am an external examiner on the MA Fashion, Society and Enterprise degree at University of Leeds, so I have a broad interest in fashion, specifically with regards consumer behaviour and fashion communications. My industry experience is in journalism and content creation, and my PhD explored the impact of haptics in consumption. My focus is on big picture sustainability including recycling pre and post-consumer waste, upcycling, as well as artisan collaborations, I an author of two books on the topic Eco Fashion (2010) and ReFashioned (2013) and write more a range of digital and physical magazines and webzines on the topic.
