Salt Weave Studio

 Design & Manufacturing (Textiles)

Salt Weave Studio combines creative hand woven design with textile manufacturing. Delivering specialist design commissions and producing our own range of interior products with a focus on local craftsmanship and sustainability.

We aim to bridge the gap between designers and large scale manufacturers. Customers can come to us with an idea of a fabric/design and we can provide an initial small scale sampling service along with the technical information needed to progress to manufacturing. This includes material sourcing, designing, hand woven samples, a technical pack for mill production and finishing specifications. (Specialising in dobby weaving)

My main interests are sustainable design and manufacturing, my aim is to keep waste to a minimum and also utilise local manufacturing to reduce a products footprint. Sustainable and natural fibres is one of our key research areas.

Small scale sampling with new materials and fibres would be one of the strengths I could bring to Future Fashion Factory, I’m always keen to play around and experiment with different weaving techniques and materials and I believe I have the flexibility to try most things.

  • What are your aspirations and plans for the future?: My future aspirations for Salt Weave Studio are to expand to have small scale manufacturing facilities. This would allow us to have hand woven design sampling and small batch weaving under one roof. My aim is to create a design-led weaving hub where designers can come with an idea and leave with a small run of cloth. My other focus is to expand my own collection of fabrics and products which are all designed and woven locally.
  • What types of projects are you interested in working on through Future Fashion Factory?: I would be interested in working on design and research projects with new materials and new techniques which are weaving focused. Also, I’d be interested in sustainability projects in reducing or repurposing waste.
