Rishad Rayyaan
In terms of expertise blended with my passion, my key areas are sustainable textiles manufacturing, sustainable composites, and education research for secondary pupils. Chronologically, I have completed my BSc in textiles, worked for 3 years in textile industries in Bangladesh, moved to the UK and completed my MSc in textile technology and PhD in textile composites. Afterwards, as a School Direct, I attained PGCE, QTS, NQT, completed Education Research modules from Sheffield Hallam University. Combining these, I completed a three-years project as a maths teacher through a prestigious and unique pathway – ‘Researchers in Schools’ – arranged by The Brilliant Club.
Currently, I have been working as a postdoctoral researcher in sustainable textile manufacturing.

- What are your aspirations and plans for the future?: Through my company, I aim to expand in two areas mainly. a) I would like to introduce to the UK market a biodegradable polymer that can be used to replace the plastic packaging of apparels. The product has a good level of technology readiness. However, some more R&D work isrequired to scale up the product. b) My company is a CiC; this leads to the second phase of my passion and plan. I would like to use a portion of my profit towards running intervention programmes for year 9 pupils. The programmes will aim to create ‘research informed students’, who will be given motivation towards research areas, research careers, and skills required for research. Ultimately, the pupils will experience a wider and deeper curriculum for science and maths. I will collaborate with different universities, my friends within the researcher community and secondary teachers’ community to materialise this programme.
- What type of experience are you hoping to gain through Future Fashion Factory?: 1. Research and innovation related to textiles, sustainability, plastic pollution, and composites. 2. Collaborative task towards commercial scale production 3. Education research linking secondary education with HE.
