Jayne Mechan (she/her) Fashion Technology educator, researcher and current part time PhD student, Mechan’s research explores the interplay between physical and digital fashion practice through ‘phygital’ concepts. Projects analyse fashion industry process frameworks in which embedded customs and nascent technologies can inform inclusive practice.

Her areas of interest encompass breast cancer and limb difference; exploring the role of human representation, engagement with the body, body change and experiences of body difference.  She is a keen advocate of enhancing attitudes to technical communication through education.

Strengths – fashion industry experience coupled with creative IT solutions for fashion industry experience prior to lecturing. Experienced lecturer and speaker on digital fashion/phygital fashion, research projects have included industry, third sector partners incl NHS and public engagement.

  • What are your aspirations and plans for the future?: To foster inclusive digital/phygital activities as fashion experiences for the benefit of the planet and people. I am keen to explore what regenerative approaches to fashion experiences can be – be it physical, digital as hybrid practices for physical and emotional wellbeing.
  • What types of projects are you interested in working on through Future Fashion Factory?: Projects fostering a hybrid physical/digital approach to collaborative partnerships with industry, third sector, public engagement and education. Projects underpinning sustainability/regenerative explorations. Projects resulting in hybrid health and innovation in fashion practices and representation and engagement with human bodies in an inclusive manner.
