 Design & Manufacturing (Textiles)

iinouiio is dedicated to:

  • Preserving, promoting and demonstrating the heritage and traditional skills associated with the ‘Heavy Woollen District’ of Yorkshire’s wool recycling industry.
  • Research and development, which applies the best of traditional practices with modern engineering and technology.
  • Arts, history and creative education.

We will supply ‘end-users’ worldwide through our e-commerce website / social media (scheduled to launch 1st April 2020) and wholesale or ‘bespoke’ business-to-business trade with small-scale designer, producers and artisans.

To a Future Fashion Factory project, we can bring a lifetime of authentic experience. We have the ability to attract collaboration with the few remaining wool recycling experts; inject energy, passion, an understanding of university research methods with a desire to create the most effective blend of science with arts and creative education.

  • What are your aspirations and plans for the future?: To establish a sound commercial foundation through sales of recycled wool products through our e-commerce website and social media that enhance our arts and education activities (see below), which could be delivered on a ‘not for profit’ basis, if necessary. The iinouiio website will feature blogs on issues concerning Yorkshire wool recycling such as how ‘shoddy manure’ was used for brewing beer, used for the slave trade and armed forces or how a BTTG report for Evergreen showed significant savings on energy, water and pollution. During the first year of the website, we plan to begin a series of podcasts with expert wool recycling practitioners from the Yorkshire trade. We are currently talking to funders with a celebrated playwright and TV/film producer about the possibilities of a community theatre event and a documentary.
  • What types of projects are you interested in working on through Future Fashion Factory?: iinouiio is interested to design craft-based textile kits with a focus on their therapeutic benefits. These could include support for mental health, people with impaired movement and vision or the social benefits associated with craft activities in groups. Currently, we are exploring the use of ‘contaminant’ trimmings from post-consumer wool knits for art sculpture and recycled wool being used for felting and hand spinning. This is not an exhaustive list; we are interested in many other end user applications to improve the beauty and usefulness of our products. We are interested in collaborating with other organisations that share similar objectives, and developing a wool recycling plant in Yorkshire as a cutting-edge example to the world that minimises its environmental impact, whilst maximising the social benefits.
