Fashion Revolution
Fashion Revolution is a community interest company committed to revolutionizing the global fashion industry, so it no longer exploits people nor destroys the planet. Established in the wake of the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013, Fashion Revolution’s ultimate goal is a global fashion industry that conserves and restores the environment and values people over growth and profit. The organization has a network of representatives across over 70 countries worldwide and its activities include creating the Fashion Transparency Index.
In its 10 years of Operation Fashion Revolution has expanded to 50 Volunteer teams and 25 Registered Country Teams. It has a strong presence in Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, Latin America, and North America.
Policy Change: The team works tirelessly to advocate for tougher legislation, legally binding agreements and policy transformation to hold the fashion industry accountable. For example, work campaigning for an International Accord on health and safety was successful in encouraging brands to keep their garment workers safe in Bangladesh and beyond. It has also been a crucial part of the development of the EU strategy for sustainable textiles, and our new European Citizens Initiative on due diligence for living wages in the fashion supply chain has the potential to bring living wages to millions of garment workers.
Industry Change: The Fashion Transparency Index has incentivised the world’s biggest and most influential fashion brands and retailers towards greater transparency, which it believes is fundamental to building a better fashion system. It has also championed the next generation of sustainable fashion designers through showcasing and mentoring initiative Fashion Open Studio, putting dozens of game-changing international creatives in front of top fashion industry audiences. The Small But Perfectly Formed programme supported SMEs in Europe to accelerate circular fashion solutions.
Cultural Change: Throughout the year, the organisation creates interactive resources, practical guides and innovative events to mobilize citizens to think differently about how they buy, care for and dispose of their clothes. Over 860,000 Fashion Revolutionaries follow our vibrant digital platforms, and during Fashion Revolution alone, reached 5.8million people on social media and nearly 5million through the press. Over 35,600 people have taken part in the free online course, Fashion and the Sustainable Development Goals, equipping them with the tools to take action on fashion’s impact.
How Fashion Revolution campaigns for Systemic Change: Fashion Revolution is the world’s largest fashion activism movement, campaigning for a fashion industry that values people and the planet over profit and growth. It is a truly people-pointed movement, working together in communities around the world to create positive and lasting change.
