Emilie Harford
BA (Hons) Textile Design, Graduation: July 2022
I’m a third-year Textile Design student studying at Leeds Arts University with a passion for layout and an eye for detail. My work is varied, and I enjoy experimenting with a wide range of techniques and processes both digital and hand-rendered, but my work is always trend driven, abstract and contemporary. Creative thinking plays an important role in my practice, and I have a particular interest in exploring innovative materials and processes with sustainable design in mind.
During the past couple of summers, I have been designing, making and selling bikinis so I have technical sewing experience along will other skills involved in running a small business. I started researching and visiting UK-based manufacturers in order to grow this hobby, however I struggled to find a factory that could produce small quantities of high-quality garments so I continued to make them myself instead.

- What are your aspirations and plans for the future?: I am open minded regarding future plans and career paths however, currently, I can see myself working for a small, independent design studio/fashion brand which focuses on high-quality, small-scale production and innovative design. After I graduate from university it would be great to complete a few different and contrasting internships to help me decide what I ultimately want to focus on. I would also love to experience working abroad!
- What type of experience are you hoping to gain through Future Fashion Factory?: Primarily I’m hoping to learn more about the textile/fashion sector through industry professionals and specialists; specifically concerning innovation through design. It would be great to have the chance to talk to people who are already experienced in areas that I could potentially see myself working in moving forward. I am also open to, and excited by, the possibility of gaining work experience or internship opportunities.
