Daniel Smith
BA Fashion Management (Graduation: June 2023)
I really enjoy problem solving and working with others seeing how they approach the same problems, always learning I like to approach new experiences with a supple mind.
I originally went to university to study chemistry with an A in chemistry and maths from A level I felt like that was a path that made sense and at the time felt right. However, upon starting I realised if I was going to be spending 4 years of my life and a lot of money to study a subject then I should have a real passion for it so dropped out to follow a career in fashion.
This process helped me develop a lot of patience as well perspective being able to look at the bigger picture and not get stuck in just here and now. I’ve been working part time jobs from the age of 13 to pay for trainers and clothes so the fashion industry seemed like the right move for me and it is a market that is exciting and always changing.
I feel I bring a unique perspective to projects, able to think outside the box and bring up questions others may not think of.

- What are your aspirations and plans for the future?: I am currently working on a framework for a community interest organisation based around uniting everybody in their ignorance of other people’s situations and creating community links. I have plans for a fully self-sustainable clothing brand from fibre to production starting with a garden space dedicated to the growth of mushrooms for the production of mycelium fibres, hopefully able to partner with homeless charities and local restaurants there would be zero waste. I only hope to be doing something where I feel I am making a difference not just for personal gain, I also have a desire to get back to nature and truly understand how to treat it right as I feel these are skills that will be indispensable in the coming years and there is still so much to learn.
- What type of experience are you hoping to gain through Future Fashion Factory?: I am open to any sort of opportunity that is going to give me hands on experience and help me develop my understanding of any aspect of the fashion industry- short or long term. I like being exposed to new ways of thinking and having to apply my current understanding to new situations so I am open to anything.
