BA Fashion Marketing (Graduation: 2021) My interests lie in new technologies, materials and closed-loop processes in order to reduce the fashion industry’s environmental impact. I am also interested in consumer behaviour towards the uptake of slow fashion and how to remove barriers in order to successfully market the benefits of consuming sustainably. Earlier this year I widened my awareness of new innovative future fabrics whilst working alongside The Sustainable Angle at the Future Fabrics Expo 2019 showcasing a range of manufacturers, innovators and suppliers working in responsibly and sustainably sourced fabrics and processes. Fibe focuses on creating sustainable textiles by developing yarns from potato harvest waste. Potatoes are the third most grown food crop in the world and the plant leftover from cultivation is a massive, overlooked waste stream. We predict that our fibres would use 99% less water, 92% less energy and 90% less land than cotton all while promoting food farming. We believe we can add to the innovation taking place at FFF and represent many of the upcoming student start-ups in this space.  In addition, we have a diverse and international background that can provide global attention to the institute.

At FET, we have two main focuses for our business. The first is the production of pilot scale yarn manufacturing equipment. Typically, our equipment produces monofilament and multifilament yarn along with non-woven materials from an array of synthetic and natural polymers. Secondly, we have a Process Development Laboratory where we conduct trials for customers in support of their goals in developing novel yarns – this can be from any number of materials and is typically guided by our customers’ needs. This included working with recycled and reclaimed materials. Historically, we have worked in the field of medical devices, aerospace and...

I am a researcher and consultant working in the circular economy for fashion and textiles. My specialist areas include product design, policy, business models and systemic industry initiatives. I have been working in this field since 2019. Prior to this, I gained ten years’ industry experience in the design, product development and sourcing of athleisure and activewear products. I am enthusiastic about any innovations with potential to scale the lesser developed circular economy propositions for clothing, for example: remanufacturing and recycling. My next research project will investigate the impacts of UK based textile supply chains, from fibre cultivation through manufacturing,...
