One of the single biggest quality issues faced by woven fabric finishers is distortion and misalignment of the weft in the end product. This project will develop a system to rapidly detect weft misalignment, and explore how the new sensor system can be harnessed as part of a feedback loop to correct the problem automatically.

By improving consistency in the quality of the finished fabric, this system will significantly reduce textile waste and shorten the lead times involved in finishing high value fabrics for some of the world’s most well-known luxury fashion brands.
