Upcycling Masterclass
8 February, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Join Julia Roebuck, founder of Upcycle Fashion, for this exciting workshop exploring how old clothes can be given a new lease of life through upcycling into new pieces.
The first part of the workshop will be a live make-a-long session, transforming an old, unwanted T-shirt into a ball of T-shirt Yarn. Julia will then demonstrate how to add a drawstring into other garments to enable better fit and visual appeal, followed by a presentation of other ways T-shirt Yarn can be used in clothing and accessories.
About Upcycle Fashion
Julia Roebuck founded Upcycle Fashion in 2010 whilst studying MA Fashion and the Environment at the London College of Fashion. Creative sewing for lifelong clothing is the ethos of the business, with work programmes focusing on design education and skills training for the upcycling, customisation and repair of clothing and textile products.
Through project collaboration with industry, school & community workshop delivery, freelance project management and podcast One Planet Fashion, Julia shares her passion for rethinking waste and enabling circular solutions for textiles with a focus on place and maximising local opportunities: Viewing clothing as a collective community asset to be shared and valued to support local innovation, industry creativity and education.
Julia is also one of 4 directors of Thread Republic CIC, a Mend Assembly affiliate in Kirklees, where the Upcycle Fashion studio is also based. She was the winner of Future Fashion Factory’s 2020 Zero Waste Fashion Competition.
