SUMMARY:Online Fashion and Textiles Research Seminar
DESCRIPTION:We warmly invite you to join us for this seminar\, collaboratively organised by the Textiles and Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing and Management research groups. This event is supported by The Leeds Institute of Textiles and Colour (LITAC) a world leading research institute\, of which Future Fashion Factory represents the fashion pillar. \nThe first half of the seminar will be delivered by Professor Sandy Black in a session titled\, ‘Publishing with Fashion Practice.’ \nThe talk will outline the origins\, purpose and scope of the academic journal Fashion Practice: Design\, Creative Process and the Fashion Industry\, a Routledge journal. It will include insights into the review process and route to publication\, including examples from past issues over the last 15 years. \nThe second half of the seminar will be delivered by Professor Andrew Groves in a session titled\, ‘Inside the Westminster Menswear Archive.’ \nThe Westminster Menswear Archive (WMA) was founded in 2016 as a teaching collection at the University of Westminster in London. Recognising the relative lack of menswear in other fashion and museum collections\, the objective of the WMA was to establish a substantial teaching collection centred on men’s garments that could be used for object-based research by both design students and the fashion industry. Industry users include designers from Burberry\, Versace\, McQueen\, C.P. Company\, and Adidas. The presentation will focus on the establishment of the WMA\, its work with students\, researchers\, and industry\, and the exhibitions that have resulted from the collection’s formation. \nAbout the Speakers: \nProfessor Sandy Black – Professor of Fashion and Textile Design and Technology\, London College of Fashion\, UAL\, Sandy is a Research Professor working at the intersections of fashion and textile practice\, design for sustainability\, technology\, business and culture. Sandy has published pioneering texts on sustainable fashion and design and on knitwear design\, history and technology. Recent work brings academic research and the designer fashion sector together through dialogue and collaborative projects\, focusing on the role of creative entrepreneurship\, design\, new business models and innovative technology application in addressing issues of sustainability in fashion. Sandy founded and is editor-in-chief of the journal Fashion Practice: Design\, Creative Process and the Fashion Industry\, published since 2009. \nProfessor Andrew Groves – Andrew Groves is Professor of Fashion Design at the University of Westminster\, London\, and the Director of the Westminster Menswear Archive which he established in 2016. It is the world’s only publicly accessible menswear archive\, containing over 2500 examples of some of the most important menswear garments covering the last 275 years.
